Perpetual Education Fund Changes Lives: In its tenth year, the Perpetual Education Fund is lifting the lives of people whose access to education and job opportunities were previously limited.

San Salvador Temple Dedication: The San Salvador El Salvador Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was dedicated 21 August 2011 by President Henry B. Eyring, first counselor in the Church’s First Presidency. This is the Church’s fourth temple in Central America.

Philippine Saints Celebrate 50 years: Thousands of Philippine Mormons celebrated the 50th anniversary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints being established in the Philippines.

Japan Earthquake Relief Efforts: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints continues to help in the effort to rebuild Japan since March’s devastating earthquake and tsunami. One recent effort includes the donation of a new industrial-size ice maker to fishermen in a small village near Sendai.

President Uchtdorf Addresses L.A. World Affairs Council: The world needs builders, not destroyers, President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor in the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, told 800 community, business and religious leaders attending the Los Angeles World Affairs Council on 26 May 2011.

Sugarhouse Welfare Services Center: On 8 June 2011, President Henry B. Eyringof the Church’s First Presidency dedicated the new Sugarhouse Welfare Services Center.

Elder Jeffery R. Holland Visits Mongolia: Elder Jeffrey R. Holland visited Latter-day Saints in India and Mongolia in May 2011. Elder Holland also visited Hong Kong on 25 May 2011, accompanied by Elder David A. Bednar.

Elder David A. Bednar Visits Europe: During the first part of September, Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles met with Saints in England, Germany and Denmark.

Temple Update: During the Saturday morning session of the 181st Annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Church President Thomas S. Monson announced three new temples in Meridian, Idaho; Fort Collins, Colorado; and Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Mormon Tabernacle Choir 9/11 Tribute: Revered news anchor Tom Brokaw joined the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and the Orchestra at Temple Square for a special Music and the Spoken Word that commemorated the 10 year anniversary of 9/11.

Mormon Tabernacle Choir Summer Tour: The Mormon TabernacleChoir performed seven concerts in seven days, in Norfolk, Virginia; Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Chautauqua, New York and Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Church Provides Relief to Devastated Joplin, Missouri: A string of tornadoes swept through the Midwest on 22 May 2011. Local leaders organized relief groups and hundreds of volunteers to help with cleanup.

Cholera Outbreak in Papua New Guinea and Haiti: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has joined with other nongovernmental organizations in response to a major cholera outbreak in Papua New Guinea.

Relief Society History: Daughters in My Kingdom: All Mormon women over the age of 18 belong to Relief Society, which helps women in their efforts to follow Jesus Christ, increase their personal faith, strengthen families and serve others. This work and Relief Society women both past and present are the focus of a new book released by the Church, Daughters in My Kingdom: The History and Work of Relief Society.

BYU Broadcasting Center Dedication: The newly completed Broadcasting Building at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, was officially dedicated on 12 August 2011. President Henry B. Eyring of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints presided over the ceremony.

City Landmark Celebrates a Century of Memories: Since 1911, people from all walks of life have made memories at a grand building in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City. On 9 June 2011, a large crowd gathered to mark 100 years of memories at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, formerly known as the Hotel Utah.

Mormon Baseball Night: Major League Baseball’s reigning world champs, the San Francisco Giants, hosted members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 5 July 2011.

BYU Vocal Point: BYU's nine-man a cappella group Vocal Point is appearing this fall on NBC's music reality show The Sing-Off.

 

"I'm a Mormon" Campaign: Billboards in Times Square, signs on taxi tops and ads in subways feature a few of the 14 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with the statement “I’m a Mormon.”

Constructing Replica Set for New Testament Projects: Just 70 miles south of Salt Lake City, Utah, in the middle of the rural countryside, is a three-acre replica of ancient Jerusalem. It is a new movie set created by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for filming dozens of vignettes portraying the life of Jesus Christ as recorded in the New Testament.
