The latest edition of The World Report, a semiannual report of news events around the world pertaining to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is now available on the Church’s Public Affairs YouTube channel and Facebook page. This latest edition includes a story on Church members in Russia, the launch of the new Mormon.org and the creation of a 1:32 scaled replica of the Salt Lake Temple.

Arnold Friberg passed away 1 July 2010. Friberg’s work became internationally known during the 1950s when his paintings depicted characters and events from the Book of Mormon. These Book of Mormon paintings were originally created for the covers of the Children’s Friend, a magazine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The paintings are also published in paper-bound copies of the Book of Mormon.
President Boyd K. Packer of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles presided at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Brigham City Utah Temple on 31 July 2010. President Thomas S. Monson announced the new temple during the Saturday morning session of the 179th Semiannual General Conference. A series of high-level meetings between The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and an official from the People’s Republic of China is expected to lead to “regularized” operations for the Church in China.

One century ago the Mormon Tabernacle Choir recorded its first album.
Now 175 albums, 5 gold and 2 platinum records, and a Grammy later, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir has been recording longer than any other recording artist in the United States. The choir has already celebrated this milestone in a several ways. The choir released a three-disc set of songs titled 100: Celebrating a Century of Recording Excellence, which includes aCD/DVD of rarely seen or heard performances. The choir also held a Pioneer Day concert at the Conference Center in July and was voted into the National Radio Hall of Fame in August.

This video provides a brief look at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Russia. With the recent dedication of a Mormon temple in Ukraine, Church members in Russia say they are finding renewed optimism as they continue to live and serve.
Salt Lake City’s City Creek development, which is scheduled for completion in late 2011, reached a benchmark in spring 2010 with the placement of the sky bridge.
Forbes.com recently said City Creek is enhancing downtown Salt Lake City. The Church undertook the City Creek project to protect the environment around Temple Square.

Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles dedicated the newly completed Namoneas Chuuk District Center in the Federated States of Micronesia on 12 May 2010.
From 28 April 2010 to 1 May 2010, the National Genealogical Society held its annual Family History Conference at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City. Representatives of FamilySearch — a division of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints — contributed to several aspects of the conference. Over 30 of the conference workshops were provided by FamilySearch employees, and even more employees staffed FamilySearch booths in the exhibit hall each day, answering the public’s family history questions and demonstrating free online resources. The Los Angeles Temple Visitors’ Center has been updated with a full renovation two years in the making. The renovation of the Los Angeles Temple Visitors’ Center brings together bright, vibrant colors appropriate for the Southern California location, with the latest technology in interactive multimedia.
The center was expanded by about 20 percent to 12,817 square feet. The renovation includes a 180-seat theater, complete with a multipurpose space for films, cultural performances and traveling exhibits.

President Thomas S. Monson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, addressed graduates and their friends and families in a morning commencement on the campus of Weber State University on 23 April 2010.
Inside the Dee Events Center, President Monson shared with 2,314 graduates their “mandate to make this world better.”

A new Primary general presidency was announced at the April 2010 general conference. Sister Rosemary M. Wixom was called as the general president of the Primary. Sister Jean A. Stevens and Sister Cheryl A. Esplin will serve as first and second counselors.

More than a century has passed since the public open house was held for the Salt Lake Temple, but an exhibit featuring a 1:32 scaled replica of the Mormon temple that offers an open house experience of the magnificent building opened 28 May 2010. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints unveiled the 88-inch tall, near-identical replica of the temple in the South Visitors’ Center on Temple Square.
