Church Recognized for Saving Electricity and Protecting the Environment

Rocky Mountain Power recognized The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as the wattsmart® Business Partner of the Year in the Wasatch Front for being a leader in energy conservation in Utah. 

The Church has saved more than 16 million kilowatt-hours using energy-efficiency programs. That's equivalent to powering 1,777 Utah homes for a year.  

In 2014 the Church saved 2.6 million kilowatt-hours, and so far in 2015, the Church has saved 1.3 million kilowatt-hours.  

“We want to be good neighbors, good stewards of the environment and to use our buildings in the most efficient ways we can so we’re not wasting resources,” said Terry Cano, director of architecture, engineering and construction for the Church.  

“I feel it is a great honor for the Church to be recognized for the efforts they have made to save energy costs. I would encourage anyone to find ways to save costs and energy at their facilities. This award will continue to encourage us to do more.”

The Church strives to be a good steward of the environment, to conserve and manage energy appropriately, to utilize water resources for the benefit of food production and beautification, to minimize or reduce pollution and waste, to be a good neighbor and to maintain its properties in a cost-effective and sustainable way.
