When dedicated, this will be the Church’s 127th operating temple worldwide and the third in Central America. The other temples in Central America are located in Guatemala City, Guatemala, and San José, Costa Rica. The construction of three more Central American temples has been announced: one in Tegucigalpa, Honduras; one in San Salvador, El Salvador; and one in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.
The Panama City temple will serve more than 40,000 Latter-day Saints throughout Panama — members of eight stakes and six districts (a stake or district is similar to a diocese).
