Elders Gary E. Stevenson and Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles represented The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at events and meetings in Washington, D.C., surrounding the inauguration of President Donald J. Trump and Vice President JD Vance on Monday, January 20, 2025.
The Apostles’ attendance continues the Church’s tradition of supporting and celebrating freedom and civility and upholding the principles of the Constitution.
“Being in Washington, D.C., at such a time as this is an honor,” Elder Stevenson said. “The enduring principles that have been the foundation of our nation are important guides for our personal lives, families and communities.”
Going back to 1873, the First Presidency and members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles have engaged with presidents from both political parties. Under the direction of the First Presidency, the Church sends representatives to the inaugurations of U.S. presidents.
See this page for a list of known dates and names of Church leaders who have attended past inaugurations.
“We wish this administration and all those that serve this country in any capacity strength and wisdom for so great a cause,” Elder Gong said. “Our best wishes and heaven-sent prayers to all our local, national and world leaders at this important time.”
