The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the locations of three temples to be built in North and South America: the Santiago West Chile Temple, the Cleveland Ohio Temple, and the Austin Texas Temple. Renderings of the Kaohsiung Taiwan Temple, the Singapore Temple, the Knoxville Tennessee Temple and the Modesto California Temple have also been released.
Santiago West Chile Temple
The Santiago West Chile Temple will be built at Primo de Rivera 1551, Comuna de Maipu, Santiago, Chile. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 12,500 square feet.
The Santiago West Chile Temple was announced by Church President Russell M. Nelson in October 2021. This will be the city’s second temple. The Santiago Chile Temple, the first house of the Lord built in Spanish-speaking South America, was dedicated in September 1983.
Chile is home to more than 600,000 Latter-day Saints in over 560 congregations. Including the two in Santiago, there are four temples in total in Chile. The other two are the Concepción Chile Temple and the Antofagasta Chile Temple, which is currently under construction.
Cleveland Ohio Temple
The Cleveland Ohio Temple will be built at Brecksville Rd., south of Longano Dr., Independence, Cuyahoga County, Ohio 44131. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 9,900 square feet.
Ohio is home to more than 63,000 Latter-day Saints in over 120 congregations. The Cleveland Ohio Temple, which was announced by President Nelson in April 2022, will be the second operating house of the Lord in the state. The Columbus Ohio Temple is currently under renovation. The Kirtland Ohio Temple was the first temple built by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is owned today by the Community of Christ.

Latter-day Saints consider temples the house of the Lord and the most sacred places of worship on earth. Temples differ from the Church’s meetinghouses (chapels). All are welcome to attend Sunday worship services and other weekday activities at local meetinghouses. The primary purpose of temples is for faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ to participate in sacred ceremonies, such as marriages, which unite families forever, and proxy baptisms on behalf of deceased ancestors who did not have the opportunity to be baptized while living.
