The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is opening the doors of the Lima Peru Los Olivos Temple to the media on Monday, November 6.

Referring to the eternal purpose for which the Church of Jesus Christ builds temples, Elder Jorge F. Zeballos, President of the South America Northwest Area of the Church, said, “We are honored to present a work with these characteristics and purpose.”
The temple is 47,413 square feet, stands nearly 81 feet high, and sits on 2.46 acres of land. It is located at Av. Eloy Espinoza 680, Urb. Palao, San Martín de Porres in Lima, Peru.
The open house will include the presentation of an introductory video and a guided tour inside the temple to learn about the sacred beliefs of the faith.
Lima will be the third city in the world to have two temples of the Church of Jesus Christ in the same city (the other cities are Provo and South Jordan, Utah).
The public open house of the Lima Peru Los Olivos Temple will take place from November 10 through December 9, 2023, excluding Sundays.
Exterior Features
The temple features a symmetrical cement structure designed in an art deco style and clad in white granite. The light-colored stone contrasts with the surrounding cityscape. The exterior motifs carved in stone are abstract and reminiscent of textile fabrics and the harvest basket. The stained-glass windows contain creams, blues and greens, with a pale scarlet flower accent.
The gardens feature four mature olive trees, reflecting the name of the temple, planted at the four corners of the paths surrounding the building. The national flower of Peru, the cantua, has also been planted.

The interior stone floors are typical of Lima’s majestic buildings, made from solid travertine quarried in Peru. The main color is lilac, with pinto-brown nuances. The doors and decorative wood are stained cherry wood, with a simple finish and smooth lines and panels that reflect the exterior stone patterns. The interior stained-glass windows match the exterior design and again feature the national flower, the cantua or climbing trumpet, in scarlet buds and blossoms.

Temples of the Church of Jesus Christ are different from meetinghouses or chapels where members gather for Sunday worship services. A temple is considered the house of the Lord, where the teachings of Jesus Christ are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other ceremonies that unite families for eternity.
The Lima Peru Los Olivos Temple was announced in April 2016 by Church President Thomas S. Monson. Construction began on June 8, 2019.
When the temple is dedicated on January 14, 2024, by Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, it will be the fourth operating temple in Peru.
