The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has released the site location for the Tulsa Oklahoma Temple.
The single-story temple of approximately 29,600 square feet will be constructed on a 25.7-acre site located at the northwest corner of 51st St. and 136th E Avenue, Tulsa, Tulsa County, Oklahoma.
The Tulsa Oklahoma Temple was announced in October 2023 by Church President Russell M. Nelson. “The Lord is directing us to build these temples to help us think celestial. God lives. Jesus is the Christ. His Church has been restored to bless all of God’s children,” he said after announcing 20 new temples, including the Tulsa Oklahoma Temple.
In addition to the Tulsa Oklahoma Temple, Oklahoma has one other operating temple located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
The first Latter-day Saint congregation in Oklahoma was created in 1921 in the western Sequoia area of the state with 113 members. Missionary publications were translated into the Cherokee language. In 1892, the first meetinghouse was erected in Manard, Cherokee County. Today, there are nearly 53,000 members in around 95 congregations in Oklahoma.
Latter-day Saints worship in temples for several reasons: to make sacred promises with God, to learn more about God’s plan for His children and the central role of Jesus Christ in that plan, and to unite families for eternity.
