President Nelson also paid tribute to George Holmes, Sr, the original owner of the land on which the temple will be constructed. George Sr. was the children of immigrant parents and a WWII veteran who bought the land with his wife Clara in 1946.
“For years, [George Sr.] had dreamt of building a forever home with his beloved Clara,” President Nelson said. “In a very real way, his dream will be realized.”
The Heber Valley Utah Temple was announced in October 2021 by President Nelson. It will be the first temple in Wasatch County.
The temple will be built on a 17.9-acre site located southeast of 1400 East Center Street in Heber City, Utah. Plans call for a three-story temple of approximately 88,000 square feet.
There are 2.2 million members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Utah, the Church’s world headquarters — approximately two-thirds of the state’s population.
The Heber Valley Utah Temple will be the 28th in the state. Other temples in Utah either announced, under construction, under renovation or in operation are the following: the Bountiful, Brigham City, Cedar City, Deseret Peak, Draper, Ephraim, Jordan River, Layton, Lindon, Logan, Manti, Monticello, Mount Timpanogos, Ogden, Oquirrh Mountain, Orem, Payson, Provo City Center, Provo, Red Cliffs, Salt Lake, Saratoga Springs, Smithfield, St. George, Syracuse, Taylorsville and Vernal Utah Temples.
With President Nelson’s announcement during the October 2022 general conference of 18 new temples, the Church now has 300 houses of the Lord in operation, under construction or announced.
