Brazil is home to nearly 1.5 million members of the Church of Jesus Christ — the third largest population of Latter-day Saints by country after the United States and Mexico. Members attend approximately 2,170 congregations in Brazil.

The Quito Ecuador Temple

The public is invited to tour the Quito Ecuador Temple from Friday, October 14, 2022, through Saturday, October 29, 2022, except for Sundays. The temple dedication is scheduled for Sunday, November 20, 2022, over three sessions: 9 a.m., noon and 3 p.m.

Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside at the dedication. The dedicatory sessions will be broadcast to all units in the Quito Ecuador Temple district.

Ground was broken for the Quito Ecuador Temple in May 2019. It will be the second temple in the country, after the Guayaquil Ecuador Temple, which was dedicated in August 1999. Ecuador is home to more than 250,000 members of the Church who compose over 300 congregations.

Temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints differ from meetinghouses or chapels, where members meet for Sunday worship services. Each temple is considered a house of the Lord where Jesus Christ’s teachings are reaffirmed through baptism and other ordinances that unite families for eternity. In the temple, Church members learn more about the purpose of life and make covenants to follow Jesus Christ and serve their fellow man.
