Nigeria: Giant Strides Made in Church Educational System
The Church’s PathwayConnect program graduated its first 92 students in Nigeria recently. Students took classes consisting of both academic and religious education each semester held at a Mormon meetinghouse.
Graduation keynote speaker, Dr. Adekunle Hassan, said, “Let this day be remembered as a day that you put on the cap of integrity and honesty and be a true member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”

Australia: Musicians Give More Than a Concert
The 50 members of the Brigham Young University Wind Symphony were on a concert tour recently in Australia and played to appreciative audiences. But that’s not all they did. The university students also performed community service.
The students were divided into groups of 10 and, wearing the familiar yellow Mormon Helping Hands shirts, went to work. The tasks varied from window cleaning to planting tulip bulbs, digging and clearing out overgrown weeds, plants, and moss from planting beds and footpaths, washing vans and numerous other outdoor tasks.

Pacific: Educational Eating for Better Health
Type 2 diabetes is a serious concern in some of the Pacific islands. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has taken this concern to heart and developed a 12-week program to help people change their lifestyle by learning to eat healthier.
Teleni Taala, one graduate of the program in Samoa, said, “The usefulness of the program is creating awareness of the need for healthy living and eating habits.”

Canada: Mormon Helping Hands Sandbag Homes
Mormon Helping Hands volunteers, which included Latter-day Saints and missionaries, were out in force recently as flooding hit the Saint John River Valley area of southwestern New Brunswick.
More than a thousand residents were forced from their homes, and the flooding closed the eastbound portion of the Trans-Canada highway heading to Moncton.

El Salvador: Mormons Celebrate Mother's Day at Rosales National Hospital
Latter-day Saints chose Mother’s Day to serve mothers staying at the Rosales National Hospital due to illness.
Mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, nurses, interns and doctors expressed appreciation for the service. “Thanks for remembering those of us in need,” one patient said. “My husband stayed with the children so I could help,” said a volunteer. “It's nice to be able to help.”
