The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced the groundbreaking for the Moses Lake Washington Temple.
Church leaders will break ground for the Moses Lake Washington Temple in October 2020. Elder David L. Stapleton, an Area Seventy, will preside at the event.
Due to local government’s social distancing guidelines, attendance at the groundbreaking ceremony is by invitation only. Photos and video of the event will be available to the media and the public on Newsroom following the groundbreaking services.
The Moses Lake Washington Temple will be built on a 17-acre site located on Yonezawa Boulevard, between Division Street and Road K NE. Plans include a single-story building of approximately 20,000 square feet, with a center spire. A 17,000-square-foot meetinghouse will be built alongside the temple.
President Russell M. Nelson announced the Moses Lake Temple during the April 2019 general conference. The temple will be the fourth in Washington state, joining Richland, Seattle and Spokane. There are nearly 300,000 Latter-day Saints in Washington.
Latter-day Saint temples differ from meetinghouses or chapels, where members meet for Sunday worship services. A temple is considered a “house of the Lord,” where Christ’s teachings are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other ordinances that unite families for eternity. Inside, members learn more about the purpose of life and make covenants to serve Jesus Christ and their fellow man.
