Fourteen humanitarian truck deliveries of food from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been donated to 16 Oregon food agencies to help after the recent wildfires and during the pandemic. The deliveries of nearly 584,000 pounds of canned goods from the bishops’ storehouse to help those in need took place during September.

“The Church sent 336 pallets of nonperishable food to several large agencies, but also smaller pantries in Oregon that often get overlooked,” said Lisa Leavitt, area welfare and self-reliance manager of the Church’s Welfare and Self-Reliance Services Department.
“The Church has really stepped up this year and helped them really use it. And they have given us some good nonperishable food that we can distribute when it is needed,” said Dawn Marie Woodward of FOOD for Lane County, Oregon’s second-largest food bank.
“The fact that we have 80,000 pounds of food right now that we can distribute to our partner agencies is great,” added Woodward.
She said the partnership between the Church and her Eugene-based organization goes back many years.
“Last spring, when COVID hit, we were given a truckload of food. At that time, … we were not able to do food drives, and we had lost some of our major food drives,” she explained. “When we heard that we were going to be given more food, we weren't scared because not only did we get one truck, we got two trucks. And it's coming at a perfect time again, because we've had the wildfire situation here.”
The Church of Latter Day Saints delivered over twelve pallets of food to the community of Reedsport. The bounty was shared between The Food Pantry, Project Blessing and the Family Resource Center. THANK YOU!!
