Elder Dean M. Davies was sustained as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on October 4, 2020. Prior to this assignment, Elder Davies served as First Counselor in the Presiding Bishopric since October 9, 2015 and as Second Counselor in the Presiding Bishopric since March 31, 2012.
Bishop Davies graduated from Brigham Young University in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics and later completed advanced executive programs at Stanford and Northwestern Universities. In July 1995 he was employed as an investment manager in the Investment Properties Department of the Church and subsequently filled several other professional assignments including director of Church real estate and managing director of the Physical Facilities and Special Projects Departments. In those capacities he had responsibility for meetinghouse design, operations, and maintenance; Church headquarters maintenance and events; acquisition of special-purpose real estate; and oversight of temple design and temple construction.
Previous to Church employment, Bishop Davies was employed by High Industries, Inc., of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and by Bechtel Investments, Inc., of San Francisco, California, where he specialized in the identification, acquisition, development, and management of investment properties.
Bishop Davies has served the Church as a mission president in the Puerto Rico San Juan Mission, counselor in a mission presidency, stake president, counselor in a stake presidency, stake executive secretary, high councilor, counselor in several bishoprics, and full-time missionary in the Uruguay/Paraguay Mission.
Dean Myron Davies was born (with a twin sister) in Salt Lake City, Utah, on September 5, 1951. He married Darla James on June 20, 1973, in the Salt Lake Temple.
