Tours of the Draper Utah Temple, the 12th Utah temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, can be reserved by the general public beginning 1 December 2008 at 10 a.m.
Open house organizers request that advance reservations be made online at www.lds.org/reservations (maximum of 10 guests per reservation) or by calling 1-800-537-6181 (toll free) or 801-240-7932 (local). Reservations for larger groups can also be accommodated by calling these numbers.
The public open house, following tours for the media and dignitaries, will run from Thursday, 15 January 2009, through Saturday, 14 March 2009. Following the open house, the temple will be formally dedicated on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 20–22 March 2009. A total of 12 dedicatory sessions will be held.
Latter-day Saint temples differ from the Church’s meetinghouses or chapels where members meet for Sunday worship services. A temple is considered a "house of the Lord" where Christ's teachings are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other ordinances that unite families for eternity. In the temple, Church members learn more about the purpose of life and strengthen their commitment to serve Jesus Christ and their fellow men.
The Draper Utah Temple was announced by President Gordon B. Hinckley, former worldwide leader of the Church, at the Church’s October 2004 general conference. It will be the 129th operating temple in the world and will serve approximately 60,000 members living in the Draper area.
