Welfare Square and the Humanitarian Center were among the sites Ambassador Touré visited.
He then met with members of the First Presidency — President Dallin H. Oaks and President Henry B. Eyring — as well as Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
Ambassador Touré was appointed to the position on October 6, 2021, and took office on December 14, 2021.
In 1987, Côte d’Ivoire, or Ivory Coast, was dedicated for the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The first baptisms in the country took place that same year. Côte d’Ivoire has just over 60,000 Latter-day Saints in more than 250 congregations.
Over the past decade, several Church leaders have visited the country for various outreach efforts, including Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles; President Jean B. Bingham, former General Relief Society President; President Bonnie H. Cordon, former Young Women General President; and Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
